Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a global public health problem. The implementation of effective vaccination programs in many countries has resulted in a significant decrease in the incidence of new hepatitis B infection. Nevertheless, HBV infection remains a major cause of mortality and morbidity. Available treatment for hepatitis B is costly and recommended only for the prevention of further complication. Use of herbs for the treatment of Hepatitis B could be less expensive with minimal side effect and may be useful to cure the disease. Further, Ayurvedic is known to work to the immunological level and has proven its efficacy in the treatment of a wide range of viral infection in other countries such as China and India.
