Nepal uninitiated conducting National Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) and National Global School Personnel Survey (GSPS) since 2007. Despite these studies, Nepal has still limited evidence regarding other important unhealthy behaviors and protective factors among youth aged 13-17 years. School Health and Youth Health Programs has not been adequately implemented most likely due to lack of evidence. In this situation, it is essential that information on main health risk behaviors to be acquired at national level which complements the evidence on NCD risk factors among the adult population. Thus the national study is designed to assess the national burden of behavioral risk factors and protective factors in 10 key areas (alcohol use, dietary behaviors, drug use, hygiene, mental health, physical activity, protective factors, sexual behaviors, tobacco use, violence and unintentional injuries) among young people aged 13 to 17 years.
